Messy No More

So here I sit on a beautiful spring day gazing out my window.  We are entering our 5th week of Coronavirus quarantine here in New Jersey and it looks as though the earliest the restraints will be relaxed is May 15th. What does one do when reality changes overnight? No human contact, no gym, no shopping, no working. A world that has only known overbooked schedules, cramming everything in when there is no time to add anything else into our busy day. Carpools, sports, cooking, cleaning, driving, walking and feeding our pets and let’s not forget about making time for connections with our kids, our spouses and partners and giving a 100% ~ 100% of the time. Life as we know it-gone…changed.

The world just STOPPED…it’s like someone said, “Get your shit together”, “stop the fighting, the hate and the politics”.  Take this time to learn, to grow, to be, to love and just FIGURE it out. “That which is not learned is repeated” and we certainly don’t want these last 5 weeks of sacrificing to go for naught. We have all used this time differently.  Some as a reflection to reconnect with their inner selves, to spend more time present….really present with family and look at it as time we will never have again. Others…still searching for ways to “bust out” and do something great…trying to come up with that “BIG” idea, continuing to work hard because let’s face it we all need to make money to live and to breathe.  We don’t all have the luxury of sitting around and bonding with our families.  Small companies, large companies, sporting events, concerts, restaurants….ALL shut down. People’s livelihoods ~ GONE ~ overnight.  Unemployment rates hit an all-time high with over 22 Million last month…How do we come back? Stronger? Wiser? Better?

Let’s face it…we are facing a new norm. Life will continue to be messy for when all is said and done. Games will happen without fans, restaurants will be open with social distancing and perhaps masks will need to be worn, gyms will be open but with limited classes and limits on the number of people allowed in class.

When we say, “We’re all in this together” ~ we are…but we all take away something different from this life-altering experience and hopefully, all the lessons we learned individually, can be shared to build something better than what we once had.

Honestly, we couldn’t continue down the path we were on…sometimes, you can’t see the forest through the trees.  But then, if we compare what we are going through to the seasons…they change….Like Fall to Winter.  When all the colorful leaves fall to the ground and you can finally see things you never saw before because all the the leaves were in full bloom. Then Spring comes…and the beautiful leaves bloom and it’s like a clean start…a new beginning.

Like the seasons…we may have lost everything for a short time but we are finally beginning to see things we never saw.  Soon enough, everything will come full circle and we will have our new beginning.  Different? Yes, but we will be able to see things in a new light… maybe depending how the sun shines down on the leaves or through the eyes of who is seeing it.

So, in life even when there is a mess.. we need some extra help to clean it up! Perhaps we need help organizing our homes and our personal space to help maintain and control the mess in the world.
